A Preview of May

4/22/11

In the blink of an eye, it’s the end of April and the end of the school year is only about a month away. Can you believe it? Time has just been flying by this year, and yet we still have so much left to do.

First, though, let me take a quick moment to thank all our students for their attendance and performance during AIMS. It was wonderful to see the dedication and determination from each student to do well on the test, both for him or herself and for his or her family. I know you did all of us proud. Let’s keep up that dedication as we wrap up the school year!

Next, I want to let you all know about a wonderful program coming to our campus. Operation Detour is an ongoing educational campaign by U.S. Border Patrol agents targeted at teaching middle and high school students about the dangers of drug smuggling and related criminal activity. During Operation Detour, the agents will hold an hour-long presentation with seventh and eighth grade students, which will include a video and a candid question and answer session. This will take place on Monday, May 9.

As frightening as Operation Detour may seem, it helps us to reinforce the anti-drug, anti-violence message we hope to express to our students before they can make negative choices that could harm them, their families and their future. It was a success at La Paloma Academy, a fellow charter school in Tucson, and I have high expectations for here.

Also, make sure to mark your calendars: our Spring Recess is Friday, April 22 to Monday, April 25. We return to school on Tuesday, April 26.

I hope everyone has a relaxing break!
