Hooray, it's May!

5/3/11

It’s May and you know what that means… less than one month left until summer vacation! But before this school year draws to a close, we still have plenty of academics and events left in store for these final weeks.

First, however, in honor of Teacher Appreciation Week, I would like to recognize our wonderful teaching staff. Our teachers are among the best in Tucson and beyond, and our students reflect their hard work and dedication. Parents often tell me how engaging and encouraging their children’s teachers are – a winning combination when it comes to prepping them for success! It is this commitment to ensuring bright futures for our children through high-quality education that sets our teachers apart from the rest and makes them truly great. So please be sure to show your teachers how much you appreciate them this week. And teachers, for the countless extra miles you go for the sake our students, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Now onto events. On Monday, May 9, representatives from the U.S. Border Patrol will give a presentation called Operation Detour to our seventh and eight grade students. After the presentation, Border Patrol agents will answer questions regarding the dangers of drug smuggling and related crime. This program was a success at fellow charter school La Paloma Academy in Tucson, and I expect the same here. I also hope that it will serve as a springboard for our students to further discuss these issues with their parents.

The last day of school will be May 25. Although that day may only be a few weeks away, there’s still plenty of time for learning until then. So let’s all keep up the good work right to the end!

To continued learning,

Raena Janes
